Dr. Surrency is a great animal Doctor. She genuinely enjoys visiting with her patients, very nice to chat with, and very knowledgable in her field. The front office staff is very nice and you can tell they love their job. They are always surrounded by animals in that office. Thanks Hillsboro Vet Clinic! You're awesome!
I have been going to this clinic for approx 30+ years, even though the vets have changed the care has remained excellent. It feels good to know that your pets are well taken care of and even when they fall behind schedule it's only because of an emergency or spending time with a family with very sick pet and they do the same for me. In fact this week have had two of my pets there and received nothing but the best for them. Dr Surrency and Dr. Healy are awesome! Wouldn't go any place else.
With myself and several household family members allergic to either dogs, cats or birds, our pet choices were pretty narrow. So we settled on pet rats.
For the past four years, our rats have been fantastic pets, but, like any living creature they come with veterinary needs.
The problem with rats is that there are very few vets in the Portland area who are truly experienced with them. Sure, there's "exotic vet" places, but oddly most "exotic" vets don't seem to have a lot of rat-specific experience or knowledge, beyond what they learned from textbooks in veterinary school.
Enter Hillsboro Veterinary Clinic.
Last spring, Dr. Melinda Surrency joined the group. We have found Dr. Surrency to be one of the most experienced vets we've ever met, and she has a widely-known reputation in the Pacific Northwest as being a leader in her field with regard to rat care and treatment. And, she has pet rats of her own, so the learning never stops.
With as many as 7 rats at a time, we've been into the clinic probably twenty times in the past year, even more if you count stops for various routine medications. In every case, we've been treated very well, with masterful pet care, and the prices are not too bad (lower than a clinic in Beaverton we'd previously used). Vet Tech Bo and Assistant Michael are fantastic, caring, and interestingly enough, have pet rats themselves.
We've been completely happy with Hillsboro Vet, and plan to use them for as long as we still have pets.
I used to take my dear old beagles to this clinic when it was owned by Dr. Huff. In 2012, we lost both dogs, in separate incidents, and I felt as if both incidents were handled very poorly by vets at this clinic. I stewed on this for awhile, and eventually wrote a vicious Yelp review, which might have been helpful for other viewers, had any of the vets or staff that were at the clinic in 2012 still been there. I received a call from the new owner, Dr. Diane Healy, and all I can say is I am impressed, and incredibly grateful that she cares enough about her practice and old customers to reach out and discuss the issues. I found her to be compassionate, knowledgeable, and I really wish she'd been there 2 years ago, because I'm sure I wouldn't have had the bad experiences I had, rather, I think she would have treated me and my dogs with the same compassion and respect she just showed me.
The lesson for me is that it's easy to complain on Yelp, much harder for that business owner to actually take the time to respond and try to fix the situation. Here, where there is no fix, and it's not even her problem, Dr. Healy took the time to see what she could do to make it right, and she did. I'd definitely return with my new pups if I hadn't moved.
I was super sad when I moved to hillsboro and couldn't take my dog to my old vet (that's too far now).
How happy I am that I found Dr. Surrency at the Hillsboro Vet clinic!
We have two dogs, a cocker spaniel that is 5 and a newfoundland puppy that's about 9 months. I purchased the "puppy" package which gives us discounts for the first year and through all the puppy stuff including neutering which we just had around Thanksgiving. Poor guy.
They are always friendly and professional. The entire staff is amazing.
We are so happy we found them.
Johnny is my first dog. Never having had a dog before, I'm very nervous when he starts doing things "out of the normal." So when I noticed that my puppy has been going crazy with the itching lately, I made an appointment right away.
The first clinic we took him too was okay, but I wanted to see what else was available. So I called Hillsboro Vet Clinic and they got Johnny in right away.
The lady at the desk was very nice and super attentive. Our dog is very dog reactive, and as soon as we saw another lady walking in with a dog, she saw my husbands concern and got him into a room right away. After filling out the paperwork, I joined Johnny and my husband in the room.
The first person who came in was a tech. She took our puppies weight, asked about his eating habits, and asked about any concerns we had. It was very attentive and much more thorough than we had experiences previously. She took notes on everything and reassured us that he was fine.
Then the doctor came in, along with the tech. They did a complete exam, right down to checking his ears and skin. I was really impressed with how they handled him and the care they gave him. Johnny was a bit fussy, but they figured out quickly how to work with him and even had me help when he started getting worked up.
When she was done she went over to the computer, went through the notes, and addressed all of our concerns. I had no idea how poor our previous experience with another vet was until we went to Hillsboro Vet.
If you are in Hillsboro and in the market for a good Vet that will take care of your pet, check this place out. I will definitely be taking Johnny back.
